Biography
Dr. Yelena Drexler is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Katz Family Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She serves as Associate Program Director of the UM Nephrology Fellowship Training Program and is the Director of the UM ADPKD Clinic, which is recognized by the Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Foundation as a Center of Excellence. Dr. Drexler obtained her MD degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and her Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Investigation from the University of Miami. She completed her residency training in Internal Medicine and fellowship training in Nephrology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Drexler has been recognized as a NephCure Specialist in glomerular disease by NephCure Kidney International and as a Certified Hypertension Specialist by the American Hypertension Specialist Certification Program (AHSCP).
Dr. Drexler’s translational research program is dedicated to the development of personalized treatment strategies for patients with glomerular disease, with a focus on lipid-related biomarkers. She has been the recipient of a Pilot Award and KL2 Mentored Translational Research Scholars Program Award from the University of Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). Dr. Drexler also serves as principal investigator or co-investigator for multiple prospective cohort studies and industry-sponsored clinical trials for patients with glomerular diseases, and as a co-Investigator on NIH and DoD funded grants. In her research, Dr. Drexler works with several multi-center observational cohort studies of glomerular disease, including the Nephrotic Syndrome Study Network (NEPTUNE) and the Cure Glomerulonephropathy (CureGN) consortia. She has co-authored several manuscripts, reviews, and book chapters, presented her research at national scientific meetings, and served as a grant and peer reviewer for the American Society of Nephrology, ISN World Congress of Nephrology, and NephCure Kidney International. -
