Biography
Dr. Victor Javier Casillas del Moral is Professor Emeritus of Radiology at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, a designation he received effective October 2, 2024.
A distinguished abdominal radiologist, Dr. Casillas has been a member of the Department of Radiology faculty since 1983, rising through the ranks from Visiting Assistant Professor to full Professor of Clinical Radiology in 2001. Over his more than four decades in academic medicine, he also held a joint appointment as Professor of Clinical Surgery. He served in key leadership roles at Jackson Memorial Hospital, including Section Chief of Abdominal Imaging and Medical Director of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.
Dr. Casillas is widely recognized for his expertise in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary imaging, pancreatic disease, and complex abdominal pathology. He has authored a book, numerous book chapters, and more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, in addition to presenting extensively at international and national meetings. His work has been honored with multiple awards at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), including several Certificates of Merit and Cum Laude recognitions.
In addition to his academic contributions, Dr. Casillas played an integral role in multidisciplinary clinical care at UHealth and Jackson, collaborating closely with surgeons and oncologists to improve patient outcomes. He has also been a dedicated mentor to generations of medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty.
Through his scholarship, clinical leadership, and teaching, Dr. Casillas has left a lasting impact on the University of Miami community and the broader field of abdominal radiology. -
