Dr. Alvarez-Galiana was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She has a passion to serve those less fortunate stemming from her parents' struggles early on as immigrants from Cuba. She has a BS in Neuroscience from the University of Miami, an MSEd in Community & Social Change, also from UM, and she received her medical degree at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine from FIU. During her Master's she worked as an AmeriCorps Public Ally for the UM Office of Civic and Community Engagement. She completed her residency at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She was previously employed at a Federally Qualified Health Center where she served as medical director and completed her service obligation with the National Health Service Corps.
