Biography
Dr. Theresa Spivey, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she also serves as Associate Program Director of the Hematopathology Fellowship at Jackson Memorial Hospital. She earned dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Molecular Biology & Microbiology and in Psychology from the University of Central Florida before completing her medical degree at the American University of the Caribbean. Dr. Spivey went on to complete her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University, followed by advanced fellowships in Hematopathology and Neoplastic Hematopathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She is board certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Hematopathology, bringing a comprehensive expertise to the study and diagnosis of complex blood and bone marrow disorders.
Dr. Spivey’s career is distinguished by a strong commitment to academic medicine, research, and education. She has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in molecular hematopathology, including her co-authored work in Molecular Hematopathology: An Integrated Case-Based Approach, and has presented her research at national and international meetings, including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. Recognized for her excellence in teaching with the Resident Teaching Award from Case Western Reserve University, she continues to mentor and train the next generation of pathologists. Her academic interests include molecular diagnostics, lymphoid and myeloid neoplasms, and translational research in hematologic malignancies. Outside of her professional work, Dr. Spivey values community engagement and lifelong learning, bringing both dedication and compassion to her role as a physician-scientist and educator. -
