Taghrid Asfar, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and a member of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. She has extensive experience in tobacco control research at the national and international levels, including epidemiologic studies of tobacco use, randomized clinical trials of behavioral smoking cessation interventions, and research on tobacco policies and regulations.
Dr. Asfar has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Cochrane Review, Tobacco Control, and Addiction. Her research focuses on improving smoking cessation treatment among socially disadvantaged and high-risk populations, including ethnic minority groups, people living with HIV, and cancer survivors. She also studies the prevention of emerging tobacco product use, including electronic cigarettes and hookah, among youth and young adults through the development of health communication strategies, such as warning labels.
