Biography
Susruthi R. Penumaka, MD, FAAD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained dermatologist, as well as a cosmetic and skin of color expert. A Boston-area native, Dr. Penumaka graduated with honors from the accelerated BA/MD program at Boston University. She pursued her dermatology residency at Boston Medical Center, where she served as Resident Director of Cosmetics and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Society for scholarship and excellence in patient care. Following residency,
she completed a prestigious laser and cosmetic dermatologic surgery fellowship at the nationally renowned Skincare Physicians in Chestnut Hill, MA, training with pioneers and leading faculty in laser medicine and aesthetics. Her clinical experience spans medical dermatology along with cosmetic procedures, including neuromodulator and filler injections. An expert in lasers and energy-based devices for both medical and aesthetic concerns, Dr. Penumaka uses these techniques to treat many conditions, including vascular and pigmented lesions, photodamage, and scarring. She also has specialized training in safely and effectively treating skin of color for conditions such as melasma or hyperpigmentation.Beyond patient care, Dr. Penumaka has a strong interest in clinical research, and has served as sub-investigator for several clinical trials. Her scholarly work has resulted in over 30 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and numerous presentations at national conferences. She is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS). Dr. Penumaka believes in a thoughtful, personalized, and evidence-based approach to help patients achieve and maintain healthy and beautiful skin. -
Research Interests
Dr. Penumaka has a strong interest in clinical research, and has served as
sub-investigator for several clinical trials. Her scholarly work has resulted in over 30 peer-
reviewed publications and book chapters, and numerous presentations at national conferences. Her research interests include the use of laser and energy-based devices to target pigmentary disorders and skin aging, along with the role of social media and AI in dermatology. -
