Dr. Shawn Alonso completed his undergraduate studies at the University of South Florida and earned his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University. He went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Miami/Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, where he was honored with the Resident Teacher of the Year Award during his final year. He subsequently completed his fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System.
In 2025, Dr. Alonso joined the University of Miami as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Katz Family Division of Nephrology and Hypertension. His clinical and academic interests include Cardio-Renal Syndrome, Acute Kidney Injury, and Critical Care Nephrology, with a strong commitment to medical education.
