Biography
Ali Mostoufi, MD, is Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he leads the Spine and Interventional Pain program. Double board-certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine, he completed his Pain Medicine fellowship at Harvard Medical School in 2003 and brings more than two decades of experience in interventional spine and pain care. He was the first at the University of Miami to perform the MILD procedure, basivertebral nerve (BVN) ablation, image-guided sacroiliac joint fusion, and spine orthobiologic treatment—part of his ongoing work to expand nonsurgical options for patients with complex spine and pain conditions. Working closely with referring providers, he matches each patient to the most appropriate evidence-based care, from diagnostic and therapeutic injections to neuromodulation and minimally invasive spine interventions.
Committed to training the next generation of physicians, Dr. Mostoufi teaches and mentors residents and fellows in spine care and pain medicine and lectures nationally and internationally on advanced interventional techniques. As Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs, he provides clinical leadership within the department and contributes to University-wide initiatives, serving on the University of Miami Faculty Council and the University’s Pain Service Line.
His IRB-approved research advances the science of pain medicine across minimally invasive spine outcomes, neuromodulation, and interventional pain. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Clinical Guide to Musculoskeletal Medicine and Orthopedic Rehabilitation textbooks (Springer) and has held faculty appointments at Tufts University School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School. -
