Biography
I am a hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery specialist, who joined the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Miami in 2015, after a 10 year tenure at Yale University School of Medicine where I was the Chief of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery. In addition to being an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Yale, I was also the lead Hand Surgery consultant for the Yale University athletic teams. I am a graduate of MCP-Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia and completed my residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Yale School of Medicine. I then completed a fellowship in Hand and Microvascular Surgery at the University of Washington and Harborview Hospitals in Seattle, Washington. My career goals as a treating physician are to offer prompt empathetic evaluation and the most current, technically advanced, management of a broad spectrum of hand and upper extremity disorders. I enjoy reconstruction of complex deformity or disability involving the hand and upper extremity that can occur after acute and chronic injuries to nerves, tendons, ligaments, and bone. I also specialize in minimally invasive approaches for articular, ligamentous, and bony injuries include joint arthroscopy, limited incisions, and percutaneous techniques to maximize a rapid return to function at the hand, wrist, and elbow. Additionally, I plan to continue a unique research focus regarding novel treatments for wrist trauma, scaphoid fractures, and scaphoid nonunions. Another clinical and research focus include problems of instability, stiffness, or heterotopic ossification at the elbow. Lastly, I am intimately involved in resident education. Since I joined the Yale faculty in 2006, I have assisted in every aspect of resident selection, orientation, guidance, and education. In 2012, I became the Associate Program director for their residency program. A year after joining the faculty here at the University of Miami, I also became the Associate Program director for our residency program here at Jackson Memorial Hospital. I plan to lead resident and fellow education to the best of my own abilities throughout my career at the University of Miami. Our most important future goal for resident education is the implementation of a surgical skills program. The greatest opportunity in medical education is training our new physicians to be the absolute best at what they do. An inspired orthopaedic surgery skills program at the University of Miami will help ensure that our future surgeons in south Florida are the most highly qualified in the region. -
