Biography
Dr. Samira Abudinen Vasquez is a board-certified pediatrician specialized in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and Pediatric Palliative Care. Originally from Colombia, she earned her medical degree from Universidad del Norte before completing her pediatric residency and chief residency at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai at Elmhurst. She subsequently completed a Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowship at Tufts Children’s Hospital in Boston, followed by a Pediatric Palliative Care fellowship at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. where she focused on simulation-based education and improving communication in the care of medically complex children. Her academic work includes leading a NICU-based palliative care workshop, integrating palliative care into a leukodystrophy clinic, and implementing a Small Baby Protocol to improve outcomes in extremely preterm infants.
Dr. Abudinen Vasquez was recently recognized with a SPIRIT Shout Out Award in Bioethics from MedStar Washington Hospital Center for her compassionate, values-driven care. Now in Miami, she’s excited to start this next chapter—looking forward to sharing her skills and, of course, a colada or two with colleagues. Outside of work, she enjoys life with her husband, two young children, and their cat. She’s also a big fan of pickleball, even if she’s still learning the rules, she brings plenty of competitive spirit to the court.
