Biography
Dr. Levitt is a multi-boarded clinician-scientist who is a practicing pain physician. He was trained at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions (JHMI) (anesthesiology, internal medicine, and medical genetics), and the National Institutes of Health (medical genetics). He worked at JHMI as senior faculty and in the pharmaceutical industry in leadership roles with increasing responsibility including president and CEO of a NASDAQ biotherapeutics company, and director of Medical Affairs within commercial operations of an international therapeutics company. He is the founder of multiple biotechnology companies, and most were successfully acquired.
He returned to academia in 2007 to identify using molecular genetic techniques novel biomarkers of chronic pain susceptibility, genes that govern therapeutic response and to discover novel non-opioid analgesics for chronic pain. He has authored or co-authored >150 peer-reviewed publications; multiple patent applications and clinical protocols (H-index 62); selected FDA filings and has >25 patents granted. His current work is focused on continued support for the translation of outstanding breakthrough science and non-opioid therapeutic approaches for persistent pain disorders, including chronic pain associated with cancer and cancer treatment.
