The main goal of my research team (Neurointerventional research division, Yavagal Lab) is to develop stem cell therapies for stroke and vascular cognitive impairments. To achieve this, we implement use of in-vitro cell cultures, in-vivo small and large animal models as well as use human patient samples and run clinical trials. Using these diverse experimental approaches, we aim to address several underlying questions - mechanism of action of stem cells, understanding stroke and vascular pathophysiology with a specific focus on neuroinflammation and gender differences. With a combination of molecular neurobiology, pre-clinical, and clinical work, we aim to successfully take stem cell therapy for stroke and vascular cognitive impairments to the clinic.
