Biography
Dr. Rommel G. Chiriboga joined the faculty of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in July 2025 as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology. A graduate of Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Dr. Chiriboga trained in diagnostic radiology at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he developed a broad foundation in clinical imaging and patient-centered care.
Born and raised in South Florida, Dr. Chiriboga earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, graduating cum laude from Florida International University, with a minor in Mathematics. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine from FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, where he was awarded the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine Scholarship Award. During medical school, he was deeply involved in mentorship and community service, serving as a student ambassador, peer mentor, and participant in the NeighborhoodHelp Program, which delivers interdisciplinary care to underserved households.
Following medical school, Dr. Chiriboga completed a transitional year internship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine/Holy Cross Hospital before pursuing his diagnostic radiology residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital from 2020 to 2024. Throughout his training, he was recognized for his clinical skills, collaborative approach, and strong commitment to medical education.
Dr. Chiriboga’s early research experience included work with the South Florida Gynecologic Oncology group, where he contributed to studies in minimally invasive surgical techniques in gynecologic oncology, presenting at the Society of Gynecologic Oncology Annual Meeting in 2014. He has continued to engage in academic inquiry during his training, with interests spanning oncologic imaging, women’s health, and the integration of advanced imaging techniques into multidisciplinary care.
Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Chiriboga has a strong interest in improving access to high-quality care for diverse populations in South Florida. His commitment to teaching has been evident since medical school, where he served as a mentor for junior students and as a peer training leader in physical exam instruction. At the University of Miami, he continues to contribute to resident and medical student education while advancing the department’s clinical and academic mission.
With a background that blends strong clinical training, community engagement, and a dedication to mentorship, Dr. Chiriboga brings a patient-centered and academically focused approach to his role as Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology. -
