Dr. Richard Riley first joined the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 1985 in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology. Previously, Dr. Riley received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Virginia and did post-doctoral study at the Scripps Research Foundation in La Jolla, CA. Dr. Riley's research has focused on the functions of antibodies and B lymphocyte immunity in autoimmunity, infectious disease, and aging. With an interest in teaching, Dr. Riley focused on instruction in immunology for graduate students and medical students. He is involved in Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 of the NextGenMD undergraduate medical curriculum in roles of leader, Biomedical Principles of Health, Co-Director, Phase 1, and Associate Dean for Basic Science Integration.
