Dr. Rayner Rodriguez-Diaz received his B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Havana, Cuba, and his first Ph.D. in Virology from the Institute for Tropical Medicine “Pedro Kourí” and Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Havana. He completed advanced training in immunology at the World Health Organization Immunology Research and Training Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland, and at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He earned a Ph.D. in Cellular Physiology from the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, and completed postdoctoral training at the Rolf Luft Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology in Stockholm and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He has received several fellowships and awards, including NIH R01 and R21 grants to support his research. His research interests focus on pancreatic islet biology, particularly the role of delta cells in regulating hormone secretion, glucose homeostasis, and inflammation in diabetes.
