Biography
Dr. Raed M.B. Zughul joined the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Department of Radiology as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology in September 2025. He brings extensive fellowship training and diverse international experience to his role, having completed four consecutive subspecialty fellowships at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System: Neuroradiology (2024–2025), Cardiothoracic Imaging (2023–2024), Cancer Imaging (2022–2023), and Body Imaging (2021–2022). Prior to this, he practiced as a radiologist at the King Hussein Cancer Center and trained in radiology at both King Hussein Cancer Center and the Royal Medical Services in Amman, Jordan.
Dr. Zughul’s academic interests lie at the intersection of advanced imaging, artificial intelligence, and clinical applications across multiple subspecialties. He has contributed to ongoing investigations utilizing AI for coronary artery calcium scoring in non-contrast CT scans and the evaluation of sarcopenia in lung transplant outcomes. His published work includes studies in Clinical Radiology and Cureus, with topics ranging from pancreatic transplant imaging to complex case reports in cardiovascular and neurologic radiology. He has also served as a co-investigator on collaborative projects with University of Miami faculty in neuroradiology, cardiology, and thoracic imaging.
Throughout his training and career, Dr. Zughul has demonstrated a strong commitment to medical education and mentorship. He has supervised radiology technologists in advanced post-processing software, contributed to the development of a 3D cardiac imaging laboratory, and instructed cardiology fellows during elective imaging rotations. He has also presented research at national and international forums, including the Society of Abdominal Radiology Annual Meeting, where he delivered a paper on pancreatic transplant complications, and has spoken at global conferences on trauma and professional education.
Beyond his research and teaching, Dr. Zughul has held numerous leadership and administrative roles. He served as National Officer on Medical Education for the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations–Jordan, President of the Amman Local Chapter, and Training Support Division Director. He also founded the Medical Student Research Club at the University of Jordan and spearheaded initiatives promoting non-remunerated blood donation in Jordan. His organizational experience includes chairing and coordinating several international conferences on radiology, cardiology, trauma, and stem cell science, reflecting his longstanding interest in fostering academic exchange and collaborative learning.
Dr. Zughul is fluent in Arabic and English, with proficiency in French, and his global perspective informs both his patient care and academic contributions. His professional expertise includes fluoroscopy, X-ray, CT, MRI, and ultrasound, with a particular focus on cardiac and thoracic imaging. Through his clinical practice, teaching, and scholarly work, he is dedicated to advancing innovation in radiology and contributing to the mission of the University of Miami to deliver excellence in research, education, and patient care. -
