Biography
Dr. Rachel Damico, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine (rank pending) at the University of Miami’s Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. She received her M.D., Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania and went on to complete bitter her Internal Medicine Residency and Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. With an extensive background in molecular biology, she has dedicated her career to advancing our understanding of pulmonary hypertension (PH) and right ventricular dysfunction, especially within the context of scleroderma and other complex diseases. Dr. Damico has clinical expertise in diagnosing and managing all forms of pulmonary hypertension and its complications, particularly pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). She has participated in multiple basic, translational, and clinical research projects on PAH, making pivotal contributions to identifying novel molecular biomarkers and pathways involved in disease progression. Dr. Damico has played a key role in numerous NIH-funded studies. In addition to her clinical expertise, she is a passionate educator and mentor, guiding the next generation of physician-scientists, pre-doctoral, doctoral, and medical students. At the University of Miami, she continues her groundbreaking research while serving as a thought leader in pulmonary and critical care medicine. -
