Biography
Rachel Belt, Ph.D., M.Sc., is an assistant professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. A global health researcher, she focuses on immunization equity, health systems strengthening, humanitarian health and the ethical use of digital technologies to engage underserved populations.
Dr. Belt has more than 20 years of experience in global public health, including leadership and research roles with the World Health Organization, UNICEF and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. She has contributed to the design, implementation and evaluation of immunization programs serving underserved populations, including the introduction of HPV and COVID-19 vaccines in conflict-affected and urban settings. Following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, she led humanitarian health programs and served as a consultant to the Haitian prime minister.
Her research examines how digital approaches can engage populations that are difficult to reach while protecting data privacy, supporting participant retention and promoting equitable access to care. She collaborates on research involving communities in Nigeria, Chile, Kenya and Haiti.
Dr. Belt also serves as community and research liaison at the Center for Haitian Studies in Miami. Her professional service includes contributing to global immunization policy through working groups focused on zero-dose populations, equity and urban immunization. -
