Biography
Dr. Omar Wever-Pinzon is the Director of the Advanced Heart Failure Treatment and Recovery Section at the University of Miami Health System and Jackson Memorial’s Miami Transplant Institute. A board-certified specialist in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, he has extensive expertise in cardiomyopathy, heart failure, transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support, including LVADs.
Dr. Wever-Pinzon earned his medical degree from the Universidad de Panamá and completed advanced training at the University of Utah and New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University. Previously an Associate Professor at the University of Utah, his NIH/NHLBI- and VA-funded research focuses on cardiac failure, recovery, and advanced support technologies. He has also led numerous clinical trials on innovative heart failure therapies.
An accomplished educator and researcher with numerous publications, Dr. Wever-Pinzon founded and directed the Inherited/Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Program. His leadership and expertise will drive advancements in patient care, research, and education at the University of Miami. -
