Biography
Dr. Oleg Popovych joined the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Department of Radiology as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology in July 2025. He is a fellowship-trained neuroradiologist with a diverse background in medicine, research, and the arts.
Dr. Popovych earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he graduated with highest honors, ranking third in his class. He previously completed his Doctor of Medicine degree with honors from Lviv State Medical University in Ukraine. Following a transitional year at Larkin Community Hospital Palm Springs Campus, he completed his diagnostic radiology residency at HCA Healthcare Riverside in California, where he trained in a broad range of imaging modalities. He then pursued fellowship training in neuroradiology at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System.
In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Popovych has contributed to scholarly research in both radiology and related disciplines. His publications include case reports in AME Case Reports and ACR Case in Point, as well as ongoing CT-based anatomical studies of the human spine. His academic interests include spine imaging, neuroradiology, and the application of cross-sectional imaging in both diagnostic and educational contexts.
Dr. Popovych’s path to medicine is unique. Before his medical career, he was a professional ballet dancer and instructor, serving as a principal dancer and ballet master with the National Dance-Ballet Group in Lviv, Ukraine. He also worked in healthcare early in his career as a nurse assistant in cardiology and as a medical staff sergeant in the Soviet Armed Forces medical corps. His broad life experiences enrich his approach to radiology and medical education.
Dedicated to service and mentorship, Dr. Popovych has volunteered with organizations such as His House Children’s Home, Camp Kudzu for children with diabetes, and Way Day Services for Individuals with Autism. His commitment to education also extends to mentoring medical students and residents, with a focus on fostering both academic success and personal growth.
Fluent in English, Ukrainian, and Russian, with working knowledge of Spanish, Dr. Popovych brings a global perspective to patient care and academic radiology. He is a member of Sigma Sigma Phi, the American College of Radiology, and the American Osteopathic Association.
Outside of medicine, his interests include ballet, skiing, hiking, swimming, tennis, and soccer. -
