Biography
Dr. Nivedh Paluvoi completed his undergraduate and medical school education at Howard University in a combined 6 year BS/MD program. During his time at Howard, he was the recipient of the Founder’s Scholarship and graduated magna cum laude with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. As a medical student, he served as Vice President of Student Affairs and received the LaSalle D. Leffall Jr. MD award in surgery in his fourth year. He went on to do his general surgery residency at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston, MA. He was the recipient of numerous teaching awards from Tufts University School of Medicine as well as the recipient of awards in leadership, research, and compassionate care. He served as administrative chief resident in his final year of residency. He went on to do his Colorectal Surgery fellowship at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA. He has authored numerous articles in peer reviewed journals, written text book chapters, and has presented at several national conferences. He is Board Certified in both General Surgery and Colorectal Surgery.
Dr. Paluvoi joined the University of Miami in 2018 and serves as Clinical Assistant Professor in Surgery in the Division of Colorectal Surgery within the DeWitt Daughtry Department of Surgery. He has particular interest in the surgical management of colorectal cancers, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, and robotic surgery. He also has deep interest in medical education, serving as associate program director for the Colorectal Surgery fellowship at the University of Miami as well as the faculty liaison for robotic surgery for the General Surgery residency program.
Given his commitment to medical education, he was awarded the Outstanding Junior Faculty of the Year Award in the Department of Surgery for the 2019-2020 academic year. -
