Biography
Dr. Natalya Nagornaya is an Associate Professor of Clinical Radiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she specializes in neuroradiology. She currently serves as Medical Director of Radiology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and as Director of the Neuroradiology Fellowship Program at Jackson Memorial Hospital. In addition, she has directed neuroradiology education for residents and fellows since 2018, reflecting her deep commitment to academic medicine and mentorship.
Dr. Nagornaya earned her medical degree from Belarusian State Medical University in Minsk. She completed her internal medicine residency at Saint Francis Hospital/University of Illinois, followed by diagnostic radiology residency training at Harlem Hospital Center/Columbia University. She then pursued fellowship training in neuroradiology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. She is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Neuroradiology.
Her scholarly work spans brain, spine, and head and neck imaging, with particular emphasis on skull base pathology, sinonasal tumors, paragangliomas, and neuro-oncology. Dr. Nagornaya has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, including studies in Journal of Neuro-Oncology, Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America, Journal of Neuroimaging, and International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics. She has also contributed extensively to book chapters, including multiple entries in the Encyclopedia of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and Handbook of Clinical Neurology.
Dr. Nagornaya’s research interests include advanced MRI techniques, MR spectroscopy, cognitive impairment detection, and imaging biomarkers in gliomas and Alzheimer’s disease. She has served as co-investigator on NIH- and state-funded research projects in neuroimaging and Alzheimer’s disease, contributing to studies that integrate imaging, neurocognitive assessment, and machine learning.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Nagornaya has received multiple teaching awards from the neuroradiology section for outstanding conferences and clinical rotations. She organizes curricula, lectures, and structured teaching files for both the neuroradiology fellowship and the diagnostic radiology residency, while leading multidisciplinary tumor boards in head and neck oncology, skull base pathology, and neuro-oncology. She has also been an invited speaker at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR), and the Southeastern Neuroradiological Society.
Dr. Nagornaya is a senior member of ASNR and active in multiple professional societies, including RSNA, the American College of Radiology, and the Southeastern Neuroradiological Society. She also contributes to the field as a reviewer for the American Board of Radiology Neuroradiology Certifying Exam.
Through her leadership, scholarship, and commitment to teaching, Dr. Nagornaya continues to advance the missions of patient care, research, and education in the Department of Radiology at the University of Miami. -
