Biography
Dr. Michelle M. Lopez is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she specializes in nuclear medicine and PET/CT imaging. She provides clinical care at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami Hospital & Clinics.
Dr. Lopez completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Miami, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry while consistently being named to the Dean’s List. She went on to earn her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, graduating in 2017. Following a transitional year in internal medicine at Holy Cross Hospital, she completed her diagnostic radiology residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami, where she trained from 2018 to 2022.
After residency, Dr. Lopez pursued subspecialty training and achieved certification from the American Board of Nuclear Medicine in 2022. That same year, she joined the University of Miami faculty as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology and attending radiologist at both Jackson Memorial Hospital and UHealth.
Her research interests include the applications of PET/CT in oncology and the clinical impact of targeted radionuclide therapy. She has been involved in retrospective studies evaluating the effectiveness of Lutathera therapy in patients treated at the University of Miami, as well as investigations into infectious ocular disease. Her published work includes a peer-reviewed article in Ocular Immunology and Inflammation examining interventions and outcomes in patients with infectious Pseudomonas scleritis.
Dr. Lopez is equally committed to education and mentorship. During medical school, she participated in the Interventional Radiology Interest Group, helping to guide students exploring radiology careers. She continues to mentor and teach radiology residents and medical students, emphasizing evidence-based approaches and compassionate patient care.
Beyond her academic and clinical contributions, Dr. Lopez has a longstanding record of community service. She has volunteered for nearly two decades with the League Against Cancer (La Liga Contra el Cáncer), where she coordinates fundraising events and recruits volunteers for annual telethons and community initiatives. She has also volunteered monthly at Camillus House in Miami, preparing meals for individuals experiencing homelessness. Through the Department of Community Service (DOCS) program at UM, she provided ophthalmology and screening services at health fairs across South Florida.
At the University of Miami, Dr. Lopez integrates her clinical expertise, research interests, and dedication to service into her role as a nuclear medicine physician, advancing both patient care and the academic mission of the Department of Radiology. -
