Biography
After earning her degree in physical therapy, Dr. Tovin gained clinical experience in a variety of PT settings including in-patient and out-patient rehabilitation, orthopedic and sports out-patient, home-health, school-based, and pediatrics. She is Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy. Dr. Tovin has over 30 years of experience as a physical therapy education faculty member teaching in DPT, residency and PhD programs. She joined the faculty at the University of Miami (UM) Department of Physical Therapy in 2024.
Dr. Tovin serves as an Editorial Board Member for PTJ: Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Journal, the official journal of the American Physical Therapy Association. She also serves as the Chair of the Qualitative and Mixed Methods Special Interest Group for the APTA Academy of Research, and regularly presents nationally and internationally on the topics of qualitative research methodology, research design, and education. Dr. Tovin has published over 25 journal articles and 5 book chapters covering a variety of topics. -

Research Interests
Dr. Tovin’s clinical research agenda focuses on rehabilitation and health service access and utilization among adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders, and her work is currently funded by the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research grant. Her education research agenda focuses on DPT and residency education outcomes, as well as faculty development. -
