Biography
Dr. Mark J. Foley is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology and Interim Division Director of Nuclear Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Board-certified in both Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, Dr. Foley brings broad expertise in advanced molecular imaging, hybrid PET/CT techniques, and the integration of nuclear medicine into multidisciplinary cancer and trauma care.
Dr. Foley earned his medical degree from University College Cork in Ireland before pursuing extensive postgraduate training in the United States. He completed a radiology residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami, followed by a fellowship in Nuclear Medicine at the same institution, where he served as Chief Resident. He further specialized through a fellowship in Neuroradiology at Emory University in Atlanta. Prior to returning to Miami in 2017, Dr. Foley practiced as a general radiologist and served as Medical Director of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at Northwestern Medical Center in Vermont.
His clinical and research work spans nuclear medicine, trauma imaging, and oncologic imaging. Dr. Foley has published in leading journals, including The Lancet Oncology, Clinical Nuclear Medicine, and Radiologic Clinics of North America. His contributions range from the role of PET/CT in pituitary adenomas to advanced CT angiography in trauma, and he has co-authored a book chapter on imaging in peripheral vascular trauma. He has also presented scientific exhibits at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and other national meetings.
In addition to his academic and clinical roles, Dr. Foley is actively involved in teaching and mentoring. He serves as Program Director of the Nuclear Medicine Residency and as a member of the Resident Research Committee, where he guides trainees in research design and scholarly activity. His teaching expertise spans nuclear imaging interpretation, hybrid imaging modalities, and interventional applications of radiology.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Foley serves as a Major in the U.S. Army Reserve, reflecting his commitment to both healthcare and service.
At the University of Miami, Dr. Foley plays a key leadership role in shaping the Division of Nuclear Medicine. As Interim Division Director, he oversees clinical operations, resident education, and research initiatives, with a focus on advancing the role of nuclear medicine in cancer diagnosis, personalized therapies, and precision imaging.
Through his leadership, scholarship, and dedication to education, Dr. Foley is helping to position the University of Miami as a leader in nuclear medicine innovation and training. -
