Biography
Dr. Maritza Torres is a Clinical Attending of Neonatology and an Assistant Professor with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Serving as a mentor for the Neonatal Resuscitation Program since 1999, Dr. Torres has been instrumental in training healthcare professionals in neonatal care. She is also an active member of the Committee of Clinical Competence for the Pediatric Residency Program, contributing her expertise to the development of the next generation of pediatricians.
Dr. Torres plays a pivotal role in organizing the Neonatology Half Academic Day for Pediatrics Residents, providing opportunities for continued learning and professional growth within the field. Her dedication to advancing quality care is evident through her involvement in various quality improvement initiatives. As a member of the Nutrition Group, she actively participates in efforts to enhance patient care and outcomes. Additionally, she serves as the leader of the Quality Improvement project focused on the transition from gavage to oral feeding, further demonstrating her commitment to improving neonatal care practices. Dr. Torres continues to make a profound impact in the field of neonatology, blending clinical expertise with a deep dedication to education and quality improvement. -

Teaching Interests
Dr. Torres enjoys teaching medical education to pediatrics residents: Care of the well-baby, problems during neonatal transition, anemia of the newborn. As well as medical education to neonatal fellows: anemia of prematurity, feeding problems of the preterm infant and guidelines to improve transition from gavage to oral feedings. -
