Dr. Maria Rueda-Lara is the Medical Director of Psycho-Oncology at University of Miami/Sylvester, South Florida’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. She specializes in the co-morbidity and psychiatric manifestations of cancer. At UM, she leads the training of medical students, residents, fellows, as well as psychology practicum students in the field of psycho-oncology. Dr. Maria Rueda-Lara is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Miami (UM) Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in General Psychiatry with an added qualification in the Subspecialty of Consultation-Liaison. She completed her residency training in Psychiatry at Rutgers/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey and her fellowship in Consultation Liaison/Psycho-Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering/Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. She recently became a Fellow of the Academy of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry and she has given presentations both locally and nationally in her field. Her research interests are neurocognitive symptoms in cancer treatment, delirium, and the psychiatric aspects of bone marrow transplantation.
