Dr. Echenique completed her undergraduate studies at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA and earned her master’s degree from Columbia University. While completing her clinical studies at Columbia, she grew interested in research and accepted a position as research coordinator at the University of Miami in 2005. While working full time in HIV behavioral health research, Dr. Echenique completed her doctorate in psychology at Albizu University with a specialization in forensic psychology.
She completed her internship and post doctorate training at Jackson Health/University of Miami. Since the completion of her training, Dr. Echenique joined the University of Miami faculty as an assistant professor of clinical psychiatry. She is the psychology attending physician for the HIV Women’s clinic, HIV Prenatal Care Clinic, Miami Transplant Institute, Diabetes Research Institute and Program Director of the Univeristy of Miami Miller School of Medicine Medical Student Behavioral Health Program.
Dr. Echenique’s passion for clinical psychology and providing mental health services to those most at need remains as strong as when she started at the University of Miami more than 15 years ago. Outside of her profession, her passions include traveling, sports and spending quality time with her family.
