I am a tenured professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine and Division of Infectious Diseases.
I designed and conducted multiple HIV/AIDS therapeutic and translational studies as PI of the NIAID supported Miami AIDS Clinical Trials Group Unit for over 30 years. I was involved in the design and conduct of the first antiretroviral agents approved for the treatment of HIV and their use in combination regimens. I served as the PI of the Miami Women’s Interagency HIV Study (WIHS), a longitudinal cohort study of women with HIV infection or at risk for HIV infection that focused on the pathogenesis and immune dysregulation and its impact on clinical outcomes. I also served on two Ph.D. thesis committees. I am currently the lead PI for a large high impact NIH grant (MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study, MWCCS) awarding over $2 million a year for seven years. I remain very active within the Cohort committees and working groups.
My h score is 88 with 42,947 total citations. I am the author of 320 total publications with over 20 publications in 2022 as part of the MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS) grant consortium.
