Biography
Dr. Kazanietz is a cancer researcher and pharmacologist focusing on signal transduction mechanisms in tumorigenesis and metastasis. He completed his postdoctoral training at the National Cancer Institute (NCI, NIH). Before joining the University of Miami, Dr. Kazanietz was a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, where he served as Professor of Pharmacology and Chair of the Graduate Group of Pharmacology.
Dr. Kazanietz trained more to 60 post-doctoral fellows and students, many of whom took leadership positions in academia and the pharmaceutical industry around the world. He published more than 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals and books, including publications in Cell, PNAS, Science Signaling, Cancer Cell, Molecular Cell, Nature Reviews Cancer, Nature Communications, Cell Reports, and Journal of Biological Chemistry, Oncogene, and many other prestigious journals. His laboratory has been mainly funded by the NIH, the Department of Defense and the American Cancer Society. He received more than 20 million dollars from federal funding sources throughout his career. Dr. Kazanietz served as editor of multiple scientific journals and as a member of the NCI Board of Scientific Counselors (Basic Sciences). He participated in more than 70 national and international grant review panels as chair or reviewer, as well as a member of many scientific advisory boards. -
