Dr. Marcelo G. Kazanietz is an established investigator in the field of cancer signaling and translational therapeutics. His laboratory has been mainly funded by the NIH, the Department of Defense and the American Cancer Society.
Dr. Kazanietz received his Ph.D. from University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and later trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Cancer Institute (NCI, Bethesda, MD) under the direction of Dr. Peter M. Blumberg. He joined the University of Pennsylvania in 1995, where he was a Professor at the Department of Systems Pharmacology and Translational Therapeutics (now Professor Emeritus). Since 2024, he is Professor at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and member of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Dr. Kazanietz has an Honorary Professorship from University of Buenos Aires. He is or has been a Senior Editor or member of the editorial board in multiple scientific journals, including Cancer Research, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Molecular Pharmacology, Scientific Reports and others. Dr. Kazanietz served as a member of the NCI Board of Scientific Counselors (Basic Sciences) from 2010 to 2016, and also as chair or reviewer in grant review panels both nationally (NIH, DOD, others) and internationally. Dr. Kazanietz trained more to 70 post-doctoral fellows and students, many of whom took independent research or leadership positions in academia and pharma.
