Biography
Dr. Luiza Mali is an Assistant Professor of Clinical pediatrics at the Mailman Center for Child Development/University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She serves as the pediatric psychologist for the Diabetes clinic and is the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) mental health coordinator for the pediatric program. She also provides consultation services for the Professional Arts Center (PAC) primary care practice and is a part of a grant-funded behavioral health collaborative that aims to help primary care clinicians and children in underserved communities to have increased access to the expertise provided by child psychiatrists. Her research utilizes developmental, educational, socioemotional, and clinical frameworks to examine factors influencing the adjustment of children from preschool to the adolescent years.
Dr. Luiza Mali is a member of the American Psychological Association, American Diabetes Association and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. -

Teaching Interests
Dr. Luiza Mali is committed to contributing to the growth of the next generation of child psychology clinicians and scholars. Her mentoring/teaching plan for current and future mentees is to assist them in integrating diversity in health care. She fosters the development of a multicultural perspective and encourages provision of culturally sensitive care that incorporates children’s worldview and family structure and values. She supports mentees in becoming independent clinicians and researchers. She takes great pride in helping trainees pursue values-based career goals. -
Research Interests
Dr. Luiza Mali has conducted research examining caregiver stressors and self-efficacy in the care of children with cystic fibrosis and has examined the role of culture, social and educational influences, neighborhood factors, and media on children’s functioning. She has published empirical research investigating the impact of friendships, bullying, inter- and intra-group attitudes, and electronic communications on mental health and educational indicators. She is currently establishing research programs in the context of multidisciplinary clinics in the areas of pediatric type 1 diabetes and cystic fibrosis. -
