Biography
Dr. Lin Zhu is a public health decision scientist who specializes in mathematical and computational modeling to assess the long-term health and economic impacts of preventive and curative interventions. With an interdisciplinary background in medicine, epidemiology, and policy analysis, she transforms complex data into strategic insights to improve health outcomes and optimize resource allocation. Prior to returning to UM as an Assistant Professor, she received training in decision science at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and served as a Senior Research Engineer in the Department of Health Policy at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
Despite the advent of revolutionary direct-acting antiviral treatments for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in 2014, progress toward the 2030 hep C elimination goal remains limited, particularly among people who inject drugs (PWID) who account for the majority of prevalent and incident cases yet face major barriers to traditional healthcare. Driven by a strong commitment to advancing hep C elimination, Lin received a K99/R00 award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to develop a novel agent-based network model and comparatively evaluate the health benefits and cost-effectiveness of alternative intervention strategies to inform national elimination efforts.
Beyond her primary research on HCV, she has contributed to a broad portfolio of infectious disease research, including malaria, COVID-19, HIV, and sexually transmitted infections. With a clinical background and a deep-rooted passion for medicine and population health, she is also interested in advancing decision-making frameworks for other health conditions. -
