Biography
Dr. Lin Zhu is a public health decision scientist who specializes in mathematical and computational modeling to assess the long-term health and economic impacts of infectious disease interventions. With an interdisciplinary background in medicine, epidemiology, and policy analysis, she transforms complex data into strategic insights to improve health outcomes and optimize resource allocation. Dr. Zhu joined UM as an Assistant Professor in 2025. Prior to that, she served as a Senior Research Engineer in the Department of Health Policy at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
Her recent research focuses on evaluating hepatitis C elimination strategies in the context of the ongoing opioid crisis. Using a novel network simulation model, she examined optimal HCV testing intervals among people who inject drugs, low-barrier venue-based HCV testing and treatment strategies, and hepatitis C elimination strategies among justice-involved individuals. She received a K99/R00 award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) supporting her work on hepatitis C elimination.
Beyond her primary research on HCV, she has contributed to a broad portfolio of infectious disease research, including malaria, COVID-19, HIV, and sexually transmitted infections. With a clinical background and a deep-rooted passion for medicine and population health, she is also interested in expanding her work toward other health conditions. -
