Biography
Dr. Keith A. Candiotti is the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, and Pain Management at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. In this role, he oversees the largest anesthesia-training program in the nation, with 127 interns, residents, and fellows and 45 student nurse anesthetists. The Department oversees a budget in excess of $180 million a year, covers 12 medical facilities, and administers greater than 100,000 anesthetics annually. In tandem, the Department manages the prestigious UM/JMH Center for Patient Safety. The Center is dedicated to reducing patient harm through simulation, team training, and clinical research and, its educational programs for medical students are cited as a national standout program.
With over 130 peer-reviewed publications and numerous invited lectures, Dr. Candiotti is noted for his contributions to healthcare research. He has also provided consulting services to a large number of healthcare and pharmaceutical companies. He has conducted numerous clinical trials, including FDA studies in PONV, pain, and various clinical areas. His personal research interests are in perioperative inflammatory responses, pharmacogenomics and how it relates to pain and perioperative outcomes, PONV, preoperative evaluation, and the management of patients exposed to weapons of mass destruction. He has published numerous articles abstracts and presented them at various meetings. He currently lectures in the U.S. and worldwide on numerous topics related to his areas of interest.
Dr. Candiotti is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Medicine. He completed residencies at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Internal Medicine (1992) and Anesthesiology (1994) and went on to join the Department of Anesthesiology. Additionally, he has co-appointments in Internal Medicine, Urology and Obstetrics, and Gynecology. He also holds a clinical appointment as an Adjunct Professor of Anesthesiology of the Hunan Provincial Tumor Hospital and Tumor Hospital of the Xiangya School of Medicine of Central South University, Hunan, China. -
