Dr. Munoz was born and raised in Massachusetts and grew up in a very athletic-oriented household. She's played a multitude of sports since age five and went on to play for the Harvard University Womens' Volleyball team during her undergraduate time there. She graduated with a BA in Spanish Literature while also fulfilling pre-medical requisites. She completed her medical degree and orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of Massachusetts thereafter. Her personal experience with overhead athletics, namely volleyball and tennis, fostered a keen interest in shoulder anatomy, mechanics and pathology. As such, after residency training, she completed a shoulder/elbow reconstruction and sports medicine fellowship at Columbia University/New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. She and her husband, a native of Miami and Lima Peru, relocated to South Florida after completion of fellowship.
Her practice is split between the University of Miami and the Bruce Carter Miami VA Medical Center. Her primary clinical interests include rotator cuff pathology, particularly large and chronic tears and their sequelae, and arthritic conditions of the glenohumeral joint in the shoulder. She also heavily invests time in mentoring and recruiting young women into orthopedics as it remains a primarily male dominated medical field. In her spare time, she enjoys fitness, playing piano, boating with her husband and introducing her young daughter to a variety of physical and creative activities.
