Biography
Dr. Judy Simms-Cendan is the Founding Division Director of Pediatric Adolescent Gynecologist at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine OBGYN department.
Dr. Simms-Cendan graduated from the University of Miami with her Bachelor of Science, and from the University of Florida College of Medicine with her MD degree. She completed her residency training in OBGYN at the University of Florida in 1995, then served on the faculty and started a Pediatric Adolescent Gynecology weekly clinic. She joined the founding faculty at the UCF College of Medicine in 2010 and opened the first practice in Florida fully dedicated to Pediatric Adolescent Gynecology patients in 2010 at Winnie Palmer Hospital in Orlando. At UCF she served as Director of International Experiences and led global health initiatives and education, working in the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Ethiopia. She developed the community engagement efforts, helping found the Knights student run free clinic and the Apopka Farmworkers clinic, a clinic which was nationally recognized for its comprehensive interprofessional care.
In July 2021 she joined the University of Miami faculty to develop dedicated a Pediatric Adolescent Gynecology practice in South Florida. Working with colleagues in the UM Pediatric Hematology Division, she has developed the Cycle Clinic at the UM Hemophilia Treatment Center to care for adolescents with heavy menses and bleeding disorders.
A lifelong educator, Dr. Simms-Cendan enjoys teaching her patients and their families, medical students, residents and colleagues. She has written national guidelines for care of adolescents with heavy menses and bleeding disorders (ACOG CO 785, 2019). She currently holds national leadership positions at the North American Society of Pediatric Adolescent Gynecology, and on the board of the International Federation of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. She serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology and editor of the Global Library of Women’s Medicine volume on Pediatric Adolescent Gynecology. -

Research Interests
Dr. Simms-Cendan's current research interests include presentation, evaluation and management of heavy menses in adolescents with underlying bleeding disorders; human papilloma virus vaccine hesitancy; period poverty in adolescents (availability of menstrual hygiene supplies); and social needs assessments in women presenting for prenatal care. -
