Biography
Dr. Judite Blanc is a multilingual assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, Head of Community Outreach at the Center for Translational Sleep and Circadian Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and the founding director of the Holistic Families Lab (H.F.L.) at the same university. She is a member of the State University of Haiti Reparations and Restitution Taskforce and serves as the Haiti delegate to the Caribbean Nations (CARICOM) Reparation Commission.
Dr. Blanc graduated from the State University of Haiti with a BS in general psychology in 2007. She later earned her Master’s degree in health psychology and psychopathology from Université de Toulouse 2 in 2011 and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Université de Paris 13 Sorbonne Paris Cité in France in 2015. In 2021, she completed a three-year NIH-funded postdoctoral fellowship in population health at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, where she received extensive training and conducted hands-on research in sleep health and behavioral cardiovascular medicine.
Dr. Blanc is leading several NIH-funded and pilot research projects, including the Realist Women Study (1K01HL175286-01), the Haitian Well-Being Study, and Nurturing Moms. Her academic work, research, and initiatives have led to over 80 peer-reviewed and lay publications. Findings from her studies have provided unique perspectives on the role of chronic stress and trauma on poor health outcomes among mother-offspring dyads and immigrants and how psychological resilience may buffer and protect against poor sleep and overall health outcomes.
An expert in intergenerational trauma and intersectional stress, she contributed to the collective book titled “Psychological Legacy of Slavery: Essays on Traumas, Healing, and The Living Past,” which was selected as one of the best academic books in 2022 by Choice, a publishing unit of the Association of College and Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association.
Her work has appeared in prestigious journals and media outlets such as The American Psychologist, Circulation, JAMA Network, MedPage Today, CNN, The Washington Post, Forbes, Democracy Now!, USA Today, Ici-Radio Canada, and RFI.
