Born in the breathtaking Canary Islands, Spain, Dr. Herrera earned his Ph.D. in Medical Sciences before moving to the United States in 2017 to pursue advanced biomedical research. His journey has spanned studies of skeletal muscle metabolism and physiology at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, and investigations into vascular biology, tumor immunity, and the role of tertiary lymphoid structures in cancer at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Today, as a faculty member at the University of Miami, he co-leads the Basic Science Team in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine, guiding research that seeks to unravel how immunity is regulated in lung diseases and how blood vessels stabilize and mature in disease states.
