Biography
I am a board-certified neurosurgeon with specialized training in Functional and Epilepsy, Deep Brain Stimulation, head injury, and radiosurgery. His research interests and experience include multicenter studies in deep brain stimulation, hypothermia for both spinal cord injury and head injury, and laser ablation for refractory epilepsy.
Additionally, I have acted a PI for industry sponsored trials as well as investigator initiated studies at the University of Miami. I work as a faculty at the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and has played a significant role in translational research, as exemplified by his work in deep brain stimulation for intractable neuropathic pain in spinal cord injury. I am the chief of Functional and Epilepsy Neurosurgery as well as the Neuro-trauma division. I serve as fellowship director for both Functional Neurosurgery as well as Neuro-trauma. As such, I have acted as a mentor to a number of trainees.
This includes training in the above-mentioned subspecialties of Neurological Surgery as well as training and oversight of trainees as it pertains to research. Former trainees have participated in multicenter studies as well as industry sponsored studies. They have learned how to design and initiate studies, as well as maintain data. They have also had the chance to work directly with the FDA as it relates to IDEs. The proposed studies examining dependence receptor functions in TBI animal models and human tissues are novel and innovative, and should provide strong evidence for understanding and translating these findings to future clinical trials. I will work closely with Drs. Daniel Liebl and Ross Bullock to oversee all human tissue collection, archive and curation of data, as well as data analysis and interpretation. -
