Dr. Joao Pedro Saar Werneck de Castro received his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, where he also completed his undergraduate studies in Physical Education. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
His research focuses on the in vivo effects of physical exercise on human islet structure and function, exploring how exercise influences metabolic health and diabetes prevention. Dr. Werneck de Castro is also an NIH NIDDK Gateway Investigator Award recipient and a member of the Human Pancreas Analysis Consortium (HPAC).
