Teaching Interests
Within the Division of Clinical Psychology within the Department of Pediatrics, I serve as the Director of Training for postdoctoral fellowship, predoctoral internship, and practicum level training. Within our program, we regularly train 8-10 clinicians and 2-3 trainers annually on how to deliver PCIT in a culturally centered and flexible manner. More broadly through our training, coaching, and consultation model, Team COACH, we have provided services to service providers from 40 evidence-based parenting programs in Miami who serve predominantly Hispanic, Black or African American, and Black Caribbean families. Through ongoing live and asynchronous training, coaching, and communities of practice, we indirectly reach over 9,000 families annually. As a result of COVID-19, I built telehealth web-based courses (which have reached over 4,000 clinicians), co-authored a guide for delivering Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) via telehealth that has reached over 1,800 clinicians, and conducted synchronous telehealth training and consultation to behavioral health professionals, allied health professionals and educators at a county, state, and international level. -
Research Interests
My active technology development and implementation work includes the development and evaluation of an online self-directed model of PCIT and a mixed reality simulation designed to teach adults how to effectively respond to children’s temper tantrums. Within our PCIT program, I have maintained an active research program that has included three RCTs of adaptations of PCIT. My overall research interests are related to increasing access and efficiency of evidence-based parenting programs to young children through tech-based and lay-person solutions. In addition, I have an interest in evaluating how professional development, consultation, and coaching to teachers, allied health professionals, and other parenting program providers increase community capacity for reducing children's disruptive behaviors. -
