After completion of her ophthalmology residency at Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Janet Davis undertook fellowships in Vitreoretinal Surgery at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and in Ocular Immunology at the NEI Laboratory of Immunology under the late Dr. Robert Nussenblatt. Currently she is the Leach Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
Her academic career includes numerous national and international lectures. She has participated in multi-center clinical trials as well as Phase I and II trials for drug development and surgical implantation of devices, stem cells, and gene therapy. Past leadership positions include chairman of American Board of Ophthalmology 2013, president of American Uveitis Society 2006-2008, and president of the International Uveitis Study Group 2013-2017. Honors include the AAO Lifetime Achievement and Secretariat Awards, Silver Fellow of ARVO, Retina Hall of Fame, a Castle Connelly Top Doctor and The Ophthalmologist Power List 2021 and 2023. She is a member of the Retina Society, Macula Society, International Ocular Inflammation Society and the American Ophthalmological Society. She participated in the AOS theses review committee from 2016-2019. She has published 45 book chapters and 260+ peer-reviewed articles on management and diagnostic techniques for lymphoma and uveitis, gene therapy, intraocular infections, macular degeneration, and several review articles. She is an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Ophthalmology.
