  Dr. Gonzalez was born in Miami, Florida, and attended the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida and was subsequently Chief Resident in Ambulatory Medicine for the Internal Medicine Program in 2021-2022. During her time at the University of Florida, she fostered a love for medical education by joining the inaugural Medical Education Pathway cohort with a special focus on leadership curriculum development for residents.
  
  She was happy to come back home to join the University of Miami in July of 2022 and currently works as a primary care provider at the Desai Sethi Primary Care Clinic. Her professional interests include preventative medicine, leadership development, and medical education. In her free time, Janelis loves walks with her mixed breed dog Maggie, jigsaw puzzling, and baking desserts.
