  I received my PhD in Neuroscience from Georgtown University where I studied plasticity of local reflexes after spinal cord injury. I went on to do my postdoctoral research at University of California San Diego where I investigated molecules that inhibit axon regeneration. I joined the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis as a faculty in 2011 where I continue my research in regeneration after spinal cord injury.

• Teaching Interests

  I am an active member of the neuroscience graudate program where I have served and continue to serve in multiplecapacities. I have served as a lecturer, course director, and steering committee member, and have trained numerous undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs in my laboratory.

• Research Interests

  My primary research interest is discovering regenerative strategies to treat spinal cord injury. More specifically, my current research focuses on how neuroinflammation due to macrophages and microglia regulate gliosis and fibrosis after SCI. We use multiple experimental approaches including transcriptomics, bioinformatics, high content assays, and in vivo surgical and behavioral methods to pursue our scientific questions.
