Dr. Ilene Sosenko received her medical school training both at Temple University School of Medicine and UCLA, where she received her MD degree. Dr. Sosenko’s Pediatric Residency commenced at UCLA and completed at Boston Children's Hospital. Dr. Sosenko received her Neonatology training at the Joint Program in Neonatology (Boston Children's Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Beth Israel Hospital, Boston).
She began her academic career at University of Miami School of Medicine where she began as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in 1982 and progressed to Professor of Pediatrics with Tenure. Dr. Sosenko’s laboratory research focused on animal models of lung development, specifically the antioxidant enzymes, for which she received grants from the American Lung Association and March of Dimes.
Dr. Sosenko’s clinical research consisted, in part, of two large clinical trials, the first, funded by the March of Dimes, on whether early administration of IV lipid could protect premature infants from developing chronic lung disease and the second investigating whether early vs. late administration of ibuprofen for PDA could protect against chronic lung disease in premature infants.
Dr. Sosenko has published 56 peer-reviewed articles, 17 chapters, and has numerous presentations at national and international meetings.
