  Dr. Hernando Lluberes started working with the UM in 1995 with the Neonatology Department. Initially they were covering Jackson North Maternity Center and at the same time Jackson Memorial hospital newborn nursery and NICU D, intermediate care.
  
  At the same time, they started providing services and coverage of the newborn nursery at Deering Hospital that during those years became Jackson South and now is Jackson South Medical Center.
  
  At the present time, Dr. Lluberes is the medical director of the Newborn nursery under the supervision of the NICU director Dr. Eduardo Bancalari.
  
  Dr. Lluberes works on a level one newborn nursery and with newborns that require a higher level of care to be stabilized before transfer to the neonatal intensive care unit.

• Teaching Interests

  Dr. Lluberes enjoys teaching medical students and pediatric residents on neonatal emergencies, routine newborn care, dealing with newborn and neonatal emergencies. Dr. Lluberes also takes an interest in being a NRP mentor, teaching residents' medical doctors, respiratory therapy, and nurses at Jackson Memorial hospital. Dr. Lluberes is working to bring medical students of pediatric residents to Jackson South and teach what they will need for attendance at deliveries and routine newborn care.

• Research Interests

  Dr. Lluberes’ research interests include hyperbilirubinemia, birth injuries, and management of newborns requiring close follow up when the primary care physician is not available. This service has been on hold due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
