Biography
Dr. Basil grew up Poughkeepsie, NY and obtained a B.S. from NYU’s Stern School of Business with a double major in Finance and Accounting. He subsequently worked on Wall Street at Blackrock Financial Management, where he provided portfolio valuations and loss projections, asset management strategies, and risk advisory services to government entities, central banks, and troubled financial companies during the financial crisis. Following his time in NY, he completed a post baccalaureate premedical program at Tufts University, and subsequently obtained his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine with Alpha Omega Alpha distinction. He completed his neurosurgical residency along with a fellowship in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery at the University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Basil has a particular interest in “ultra-minimally” invasive approaches to the spine including endoscopic spine surgery. He believes in customizing his treatments to each patient’s pathology, goals, needs, and lifestyle, and in this regard, he leverages novel technologies including navigation, robotics, and augmented reality in the operating room. He also spent a significant amount of time developing algorithms to understand the relative effectiveness of different surgeries using objective activity measures. -
