Biography
I am Dr. Gil Gontre, a hand surgeon with over two decades of specialized training and practice in the field of orthopedic and hand surgery. My medical journey began 21 years ago when I completed my orthopedic surgery residency in Mexico City, where I developed a strong foundation in musculoskeletal care.
Driven by a passion for advancing my expertise, I pursued a series of fellowships that have shaped my career. I completed a hand surgery fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada under the supervision of Dr. Peter Gropper, where I refined my skills in treating complex conditions of the hand and wrist. I then further specialized in peripheral nerve surgery under the mentorship of Dr. Susan Mackinnon at Washington University in St. Louis, a globally recognized leader in the field. Finally, I completed a microsurgery fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston under the supervision of Dr. Milton Armstrong, gaining proficiency in intricate surgical techniques for limb reconstruction and nerve repair.
For the past 16 years, I have dedicated my career to providing comprehensive care for patients with upper and lower extremity conditions. Over the last decade, I have served as a faculty member at the Level 1 Trauma Center at Texas Tech University of El Paso. In this role, I have treated a wide range of complex injuries and conditions, honing my skills in trauma care and reconstructive surgery.
My practice encompasses the management of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, elbow, brachial plexus, and peripheral nerve conditions for upper and lower extremities in both pediatric and adult patients. I am committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care, utilizing advanced techniques to restore function and improve quality of life for my patients.
Outside of my clinical work, I remain actively involved in medical education and research, contributing to the advancement of my field and mentoring the next generation of surgeons. My dedication to excellence, combined with extensive training and experience, allows me to provide trusted expertise in hand and peripheral nerve surgery. I am excited to serve the South Florida community and bring my expertise to this vibrant region. -
