Biography
I obtained my MD degree at the University of Bari, Italy in 1993. In 1994, I moved to Miami and worked at the Diabetes Research Institute under the mentorship of Dr. Camillo Ricordi as an NIH Research Fellow, being involved in islet cell and bone marrow transplant research projects. In 1996 I started residency in General Surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital program, followed in 2001 by a 2 year fellowship in abdominal solid organ transplantation at the same institution under the guidance of Dr. Andreas Tzakis. Since 2003 I have been a faculty member at the University of Miami and Associate Professor of Surgery since 2008. I am currently at the Miami Transplant Institute, a joint venture of the Jackson Health System and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. -

Teaching Interests
My main teaching interests areas are in the field of liver transplant for hepatocellular carcinoma and intestinal and multivisceral transplantation. I routinely teach our abdominal transplant fellows, as well as fellows in the Hepatology program and in Interventional Radiology program. -
Research Interests
I am interested in clinical outcomes after intestinal transplantation, specifically in the occurrence of rejection episodes and how to prevent them, graft versus host disease and post-transplant lympho-proliferative disorders in both adult and pediatric recipients. -
