Biography
Dr. Gary Kleiner is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Director of Pediatric Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the University of Miami. He earned his MD/PhD at SUNY Downstate and completed his pediatric residency and allergy/immunology fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He further specialized in pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplantation at Duke University.
Dr. Kleiner has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as Director of Pediatric Allergy and Co-Director of Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami for a decade. In 2011, he was recruited by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Florida, to launch a new allergy/immunology program. He returned to the University of Miami in 2016, where he now directs the Jeffrey Modell Diagnostic and Research Center, the FARE Food Allergy Center of Excellence, and the NIH Primary Immune Deficiency Transplant Consortium at UM.
Dr. Kleiner is actively involved in national and state-level health initiatives. He serves as the immunology expert on the Florida Department of Health’s Newborn Screening Advisory Council and is a member of several key committees in national organizations, including AAAAI, CIS, ASBMT, CIBMTR, and USIDnet. -

Teaching Interests
Dr. Kleiner is deeply committed to medical education and mentorship. He teaches graduate-level immunology at the University of Miami and mentors medical students and residents at UM/Jackson Memorial Hospital. He also serves as Assistant Program Director of the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Allergy and Immunology.

Research Interests
Dr Kleiner performs research in food allergy and is Director of the University of Miami FARE Center of Excellence. He is the principal investigator for a trial investigating a patch to treat peanut allergy in children. The Food Allergy Center performs desensitization and other modalities to treat food allergy. In addition, the center is collaborating with the UM School of Nursing and UM Mailman Center to investigate interventions to alleviate food allergy anxiety in clinical settings. -
