Biography
Dr. Floriano Marchetti is an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. A faculty member in the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery since 2002.
Dr. Marchetti received his undergraduate degree from Liceo Scientifico “B. Rosetti” University in Italy. He then attended University of Bologna where he obtained his Doctor in Medicine and Surgery degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Dr. Marchetti spent fourteen months as a Research Fellow in the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida and returned to Bologna, Italy to complete his General Surgery Residency at S. Orsola Hospital, University of Bologna in 2003. Later, he returned to the United States and served as a Research Fellow in the Department of Colorectal Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, under the direction of Dr. Victor Fazio. He conducted and completed the Prospective Randomized study on resection margins in Crohn’s Disease with Dr. Fazio.
Between 1996 and 2001 he completed his American general surgery training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and, then, obtained a Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship at University of Minnesota. Dr. Marchetti is board certified with the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. His areas of expertise include Colon and Rectal surgery, robotic surgery, laparoscopic surgery and, colorectal cancer, anal cancer, advanced colorectal cancer treatment and HIPEC. He treats polyps, Inflammatory Bowel diseases, and other colorectal condition such as rectal prolapse, hemorrhoids, fissures, anal fistulas and anorectal diseases.
Dr. Marchetti has written many book chapters as well as articles in international journals and has also attended and presented at several national and international surgical and colorectal meetings. He was a Sergio Larach Award Recipient at the 7th Annual Colon and Rectal Symposium. Was selected for the best paper Award at the International Symposium on new trends in Pelvic Pouch procedures “Cell kinetics of the ileal pouch after Pouch-Anal anastomosis”. Received the Third-Clinical Research Award at the 54th Annual Residency Essay Contest, Cleveland Surgical Society for his Preliminary report, “Effect of resection margins on the recurrence of Crohn’s Disease in the small bowel: a randomized prospective study. Also, awarded with the Midwest Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons best paper Award at the 8th Annual Meeting of the ASCRS for “The role of sphincteroplasty for fecal incontinence reevaluated: a prospective review”. -
